FAQ and getting started

Straight answers before you sign up.

Short answers, in the public product names, each pointing at the page that controls it: the Terms, the Privacy Statement, Pricing & availability, or the product page. Where something is closed or not built, the answer says so.

Choosing a workspace

Three adult workspaces, each with its own buyer, job, and records. They are not plan tiers of one product.

Which workspace is mine?

Choose by the work you own. Praxis Tech if you are a percussion technician or contractor doing service work for schools. Praxis Percussion Studio if you teach private lessons. Praxis Percussion Program if you run a school percussion program and want the admin side handled. The comparison page puts all three side by side, and How it works walks one real job in each.

Can I use more than one workspace?

Yes, under one sign-in. A Studio purchase includes the complete Tech workspace for the purchasing educator, kept as its own workspace with its own records; nothing is merged. A Program grant opens Program Core alone and confers no Studio and no Tech. Tech stands on its own. No workspace can read another’s records.

Controls: Compare, "Still deciding?"

Do I need an account for the free practice tools?

No. The Backwerd Rhythm Shop tools are free and account-free, and using them creates no Praxis Percussion account or record. The account-free practice hub uses fictional records and makes no changes.

Where do I actually sign up?

Tech: the workspace chooser. Studio: Start your studio. Program: there is no public signup; request the preview and a reviewed request opens a 30-day trial. Schools and districts evaluating Studio use director access rather than self-serve signup.

Praxis Tech

Work operations for percussion service providers. Available now.

Is Tech a marketplace? Does it process my clients' payments?

No and no. Tech is not a marketplace and does not collect your clients’ payments or take a percentage of your work. What you pay Praxis is your membership; what a director pays you goes through your own channel. Tech creates printable invoice records for work owed to you, tracks the status you enter, and in production can deliberately send a finalized invoice summary to the saved bill-to contact. Praxis still does not collect the payment.

Controls: Tech, "What Tech does not do today"

What is an invoice record?

A record of billable work kept beside the service that produced it: completed work, actual time, reimbursables, reviewed adjustments, and the handoff. You create it, print it, mark it sent, and record payment received elsewhere. It is a record of money owed and received, not a payment.

Do my directors need accounts?

No. Unlimited client organizations live in your workspace, and a director needs no Tech membership to receive a recap you chose to send or to see a published public profile. The authenticated Director Portal is a controlled pilot; general invitations are not open yet.

Controls: Tech, "For band directors"

Is my client list private? What about student data?

Your client list, private notes, and invoices are never on your public page; it shows only the services and open dates you put on it. Tech holds adult operational records, so hiring a tech who uses it does not put a program’s students in a new system. Private notes are versioned and append-only, and nothing you write becomes a shared recap until you choose the recipient and publish it.

What does the AI do in Tech?

It turns only the adult-only provider notes you select into an editable recap or clinic-prep draft. It does not use student information, choose a recipient, save, send, or publish anything. Each workspace can start up to 25 AI drafts in a rolling 24-hour period, and manual drafting is always available without it.

Praxis Percussion Studio

Teaching continuity for private educators. Available now.

Who is Studio for?

One private educator organization: a private teacher or a small studio, with one paid educator seat and unlimited learners, groups, and teaching locations. Schools and districts do not self-serve; they use a reviewed director-access request.

What does "teaching continuity" actually mean?

The schedule, lesson plan, observations, assignment, repertoire, progress, and next step live in one lesson record, so the next lesson opens from what carried forward instead of from memory. Review and retention checks sit inside the lesson workflow rather than in a separate tracker, and authorized lesson history can become a date-bounded progress report or a governed CSV export.

Controls: the Studio page

Does Studio book lessons automatically?

No. Nothing books itself. You publish availability in bands (Open, Limited, Unavailable) through a private link. Families request a time, or you enter an inquiry from a phone call. You approve every placement, set the lesson time, and choose the pseudonymous label yourself. Studio can connect a Google or Microsoft calendar you choose; the connection is off until you turn it on and writes only the lesson time, length, and who it is with.

Controls: Privacy Statement, "Calendar connections you choose"

Do students or parents get logins?

Students never receive accounts, sign-ins, or access codes in a private studio, in any mode. Broad learner and guardian accounts, a general parent portal, automated reminders, and an AI teaching assistant are not part of the current public offer. A teacher may invite a parent or guardian into a specific record; it is optional and never a requirement for keeping the record. Sharing anything means explicit authorization of selected records, and a matching email or a guessed link never grants access.

Controls: Terms, "Student records in a private studio"

Can I enter my real students?

Every new Studio workspace starts in fictional-data mode, enforced by the server. A private studio or independent teaching practice activates real student records itself, from inside the workspace, by accepting the current Terms, Privacy Statement, and activation disclosure. No review, no waiting. Activation covers students 13 or older; records about younger students additionally require the Under-13 Records Addendum. Activation is one-way. Entering a record is your representation that any permission the family, the law, or your own lesson agreement requires was obtained.

Controls: Terms and the activation disclosure

Does the software grade playing?

No. Software reports what an activity actually observed, such as answer accuracy, selections, and input order. It never claims to hear tone, grip, rebound, dynamics, or timing. Whether the playing passes stays the educator’s judgment.

Praxis Percussion Program

Adult operations for one school percussion program. Private preview by reviewed request.

What does Program Core manage?

The admin side general school software does not do well for percussion: classes, contest and performance itineraries, load sets and one deduplicated loading list, rehearsal plans and logs, concert programming with a printable program, the Sheet Music Library, instrument inventory with measured footprints, stage plots and a truck plan, equipment purchasing records, and reviewed rubrics.

Controls: the Program page; try it in the fictional demo

What does Program Core not manage?

Learner records. Verification, pass-offs, rubric scores, and mastery belong to Praxis Learners, a separate product. Program Core reads and writes none of them. It is also not a general ledger, accounts-payable system, or payment processor: it tracks purchasing steps as podium work and does not replace the finance office.

How is Program different from Praxis Learners?

Program Core is the adult operations workspace and is complete without student features. Praxis Learners is a separate product that a school takes on through a signed agreement and review, with its own governed release. A director who never buys Praxis Learners is a whole customer. Because Program Core holds no learner records, a director can evaluate it without a student-data agreement.

Controls: Program, "Program Core is not Praxis Learners"; schools start at district review

How do I get in, and what does it cost?

Public checkout and learner rollout are not open. Request the preview with adult and organization information only; a reviewed request opens a 30-day trial, and purchasing is arranged with us directly. The published price is $295/year or $29/month for one program, with no per-student fee. Multi-campus and district scope is a custom conversation.

Controls: Pricing & availability

Trials, pricing, billing, and cancellation

The figures live on Pricing & availability; the rules live in the Terms. This section summarizes both and changes neither.

How does the trial work?

Tech and Studio trials run 30 days with no payment card. The trial does not turn into a charge: to continue, you choose monthly or yearly inside the workspace and enter payment details yourself. A Program trial is opened by us after a reviewed request; there is no public Program checkout.

What does each workspace cost?

Tech is $7/month or $70/year. Studio is $15/month or $144/year, and includes Tech for the purchasing educator. Program Core is $295/year or $29/month by reviewed access. No per-client, per-learner, or ordinary feature tiers. Sales tax is added where we are required to collect it.

Canonical: Pricing & availability

How am I billed?

In advance, in US dollars, through our payment processor; we do not see or store your card details. The price, interval, and first charge date are shown for review before you buy, and your acceptance is recorded against exactly what you were shown. Plans renew automatically until you cancel. If a plan’s price changes, you get at least 30 days' notice by email and the new price applies from your next renewal. If a payment fails we may retry it and will email you; if it stays unpaid we may suspend paid features, but we will not delete your records for non-payment without telling you first and giving you a reasonable chance to export them.

Controls: Terms, "Subscriptions, renewal, and payment"

Can I cancel? Do I get a refund?

Cancel any time from Membership in your workspace or by email. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you already paid for, and you keep access until then; partial periods are not prorated. Tech: ask within 30 days of your first payment and it is refunded in full; access ends when the refund goes through. Studio’s founding-rate refund applies only to studios that already hold that closed rate. Refund requests go to taylor@backwerdrimshot.com.

Controls: Terms, "Ending access"

What happens to my records if I stop paying?

You can export your records at any time, and exports stay available after paid access ends. Ending paid access does not by itself delete anything. Records stay until you ask us to remove them or the teaching relationship or organization ends; then they are erased within 60 days under the documented retention standard. A deletion request is an email; you do not need an account or an active agreement to make it.

Controls: Terms, "Getting your records out"; Privacy Statement, "Retention and deletion"

Setup, imports, support, accessibility, and privacy

What the first week of setup looks like, and what we do and do not promise about the system around it.

Can I import or migrate from another system?

There is no automated migration from another product. The Sheet Music Library and Inventory take reviewed CSV imports: you see the proposed column mapping and every row before anything is written, duplicates are detected so the same file can be run twice safely, and an AI-assisted review may suggest a mapping but never writes a record. Clients, students, and lessons are entered by hand.

Controls: Terms, "What we do not promise" (assistance suggests; you apply)

What happens right after I sign up?

Tech: you verify your email, the workspace opens, and a first-job checklist walks you through client, service, notes, recap, and invoice record. Studio: the workspace is created when you open the emailed link, in fictional-records-only mode, with a Today view, the studio calendar, and a setup checklist. Sign-in is a single-use emailed link; there is no password. Program: a reviewed request opens a 30-day Program Core trial. The first-30-minutes guides below say what to do in each.

How do I get support, and can support staff see my records?

Email taylor@backwerdrimshot.com; Praxis Percussion is operated by Backwerd Rimshot, LLC from Fort Worth, Texas. There is no routine staff access to your records. Support access is a control you hold: Praxis asks naming one reason, nothing is readable until your organization’s owner approves the request in the portal, the approval expires by itself after 72 hours or when you revoke it, and every read under it is logged where the owner can see it.

Controls: Privacy Statement, "Staff and support access"

Is Praxis accessible?

We build with semantic HTML, keyboard-reachable controls, visible focus, and phone-width layouts, and the audited Tech and Studio routes are rendered in a real browser on every change with their automated accessibility violation counts held to a ceiling that can only go down. We do not claim a certification or a conformance level we have not had assessed. If something blocks you, tell us at taylor@backwerdrimshot.com and we will treat it as a defect.

How is my data protected?

Encrypted transit and provider-managed encryption at rest, hashed credentials, secure HTTP-only session cookies, time-limited sessions, per-organization and per-capability access controls, append-only audit events, and a server-enforced per-organization release gate. We do not advertise, sell records, or train general-purpose AI on them. No system is guaranteed secure, and we describe controls rather than claim certifications we do not hold. Access, correction, and deletion requests are an email to taylor@backwerdrimshot.com.

Controls: Privacy Statement, "Security"

How long are records kept?

Student records are kept while the organization’s agreement lasts and erased within 60 days of the agreement ending, the teaching relationship ending, or a request, whichever comes first, with an export first if asked. Audit and security records are kept 13 months so a school year plus the summer can be reconstructed; identifying information is removed from them when a record is erased. Erasure is a documented two-step procedure with a preview, an approval, and a permanent record of who did each part.

Controls: Privacy Statement, "Retention and deletion"

District review

For the technology, privacy, legal, and purchasing contacts who review a vendor before anyone signs.

How does a district review Praxis?

Write to privacy@praxispercussion.com naming the district, the person who would approve an agreement, and the contacts who should review. Praxis opens a review workspace scoped to your district and invites the people you name. The district page is the whole district-facing record, and the same content is on one downloadable packet you can forward to counsel.

Can we evaluate without any student data?

Yes, and that is the only way it works. A district review workspace holds no student record, creates no learner, and cannot switch student features on. The Program demo is fictional and read-only, and a Program Core trial holds no learner records. Praxis Learners opens only after a signed agreement is verified and recorded, and then only through a separate, explicit activation.

Which agreement governs student data?

When student features enter the conversation, the school-facing agreement is the SDPC National Data Privacy Agreement, adopted unmodified. Where that agreement and the published Terms or Privacy Statement disagree about student information, the agreement controls. Both public documents are versioned and content-addressed, so an acceptance can always say which text it covered. Security concerns go to security@praxispercussion.com.
